1. INTRODUCTION Information and communication technologies (ICT) have been found to play a vital role in the world of work. However, in their mandate to fulfill this role, information communication technologies have brought with them challenges such as the lack of skills to manage them. These challenges prevent them from fulfilling their vital role at work. The basic purpose of this essay is to discuss the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in an organization such as the University of Botswana and the challenges it has brought. The essay will begin by defining what information communication technology is and providing examples of such technologies. Secondly the essay will discuss the role of ICT in the University of Botswana using blackboard and website systems to illustrate the role it plays. Furthermore the essay will discuss the challenges that ICT has brought and provide recommendations on the challenges brought. In conclusion, the essay will argue that the role of ICT in the University of Botswana is of great importance, although it has brought challenges. Information and communications technology to undertake will be defined. Information and communication technology refers to the combination of science and technology (Moursund, 2005). It also claims that it encompasses the entire range of telecommunications hardware and software. Examples of such hardware include cell phones, the Internet, the Web, video cameras, and wireless networks. The Site also allows the University to communicate with its members via staff email and student email. Furthermore, the essay showed the challenges brought by ICT.
