Technology is a very important tool for the advancement of human life. We can use technology to help us in everyday life, but it can also do the opposite of what it should be used for. Laptops and phones have become a very important part of our lives over the past few decades. Now we can easily contact our loved ones and deliver important news within seconds and share our experiences with online social sites with family and friends. All these media tools are used to connect us to our world, but we are also disconnected within ourselves. It seems like our brains are losing the ability to remember things we used to know in our heads. For example, before cell phones were invented, everyone remembered their friends' phone number, but now he hardly started his essay with two different scenarios with different mindsets. Glenn explores the circumstances of multitasking that students engage in in the classroom. Many students think they can multitask, as Glenn states in the article “From texting to class to Facebook to taking notes and back again, they may drift away from class” (Point 3). Students are certain that they are getting everything the professor says, but studies show that students miss out on a lot of important information because of this illusion. Glenn includes many professors' opinions on multitasking with different thoughts on how they choose different methods to get their information to students while eliminating any obstacles. Clifford Nass, professor of psychology at Stanford University, conducted an experiment on multitasking. He found that multitasking students performed worse in the experiment than students who were highly focused on one task at a time. Glenn also includes the perspective of Professor David E. Myer. According to Professor Myer, pen and paper also distract the student. Myers says that if students start taking notes, they will definitely miss important information about the topic (bullet). I had the opportunity to attend classes in India. During my educational journey I took a mathematics course in India. The professor was very tired of students using cell phones to text and surf the Internet even after suspending three students who disrupted class using cell phones. He came up with the idea of completely shutting down cell phone radio signals while students are in class. Our math teacher purchased it and installed a device inside the classroom called a cellphone jammer, to disrupt communication between cell phones and the tower transmitting cell phone signals.
