I. GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is located in the southwest of the Asian continent, with approximately 29,196 million inhabitants, as explained by the 2013 world population statistics (1). The percentage of the population aged over 60 is expected to increase by 7% by 2020 (2). A proper understanding of the structure and infrastructure of the oral healthcare system in Saudi Arabia is critical to improving existing oral health policies and outcomes in the country. Certainly, Saudi Arabia has shown notable improvement in its overall health indicators, including life. birth expectancy, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, level of immunization and infectious diseases (3). The life expectancy at birth in Saudi Arabia is almost 74.04 years among males and 78.25 years among females, this shows that females have a higher life expectancy than males (4). While the infant mortality rate in males is close to 13.79 deaths per 1,000 live births compared to nearly 10.15 deaths per 1,000 live births among females (4). Equally important, Saudi Arabia has an economic boom, and this economic growth has shown a notable reduction and improvement in infant mortality (5). Gross domestic product per capita (GDP) has been estimated at approximately $20,700, and health spending as a percentage of GDP is approximately 4.0 (4). In 2006, the total spending allocated to the Ministry of Health (MOH) was 6% of the total government budget, which represents 44% of all healthcare spending (3). In 2014, the government spent a lot of resources on the healthcare system. Of which dental expenses accounted for 12.63% of the overall budget of the Ministry of Health to supply and open dental clinics.
