1.0 Introduction Although air travel is one of the safest and fastest ways of travel, there are still some problems associated with it. Although aircraft systems have been developed to help the pilot so far, there are still some major problems that we still need to address. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines situational awareness as “the accurate perception and understanding of all factors and conditions within the five fundamental risk elements (flight, pilot, aircraft, environment, and operation type which include a certain air situation) that affect safety before, during and after the flight” (Air Force). Considering that all of these factors play a role in every flight, there is a risk that something will happen during the flight that could cause a negative outcome. For a pilot, situational awareness begins long before the flight itself actually takes place. Unlike when getting into a car, where the driver approaches and leaves, special and sometimes meticulous planning is required during a flight. There are many phases that occur beyond just the actual flying part that you need to pay attention to. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is responsible for investigating aviation accidents in the United States and compiles statistics on each accident. Part 135 is classified as air taxi operations, i.e. airlines. This data shows crashes of fixed-wing aircraft, which most people travel on. Airline pilots have logged more flight time than most pilots in any other category. According to the NTSB, "The pilots involved in these accidents had an average total flight time of 5,459 hours, with a range of 611 to 16,010 hours, and an average time in the accident aircraft type of 2,502 hours, with a range from ... .... half of the document ......://www.ntsb.gov/doclib/reports/2012/ARA1201.pdf Risk factors associated with weather-related general aviation accidents. 2005).In National Transportation Safety Board.
