NEW YORK CITYNew York is probably one of the most interesting cities in the world. It has something to offer everyone. If you are looking for culture, make the right choice by visiting one of the hundreds of great museums in the city. If you are looking for nightlife: you are probably in one of the famous clubs and discos in the city. Or, if you simply want a relaxing vacation, you're better off heading to one of the famous parks that New York has to offer. I would recommend seeing the Brooklyn Bridge if you are interested in great engineering work. The Brooklyn Bridge is located across from City Hall Park. It is one of the great engineering milestones of the 19th century. Overlooking the East River, this historic intersection divides Manhattan and Brooklyn. Visitors can cross the bridge to get excellent views of Lower Manhattan, and there is a path for pedestrians and cyclists that allows for a contrasting view of the two neighborhoods. When the Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883, after 16 years of construction, it connected the two independent cities of New York City to Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Bridge was the first suspension bridge built of steel. New York is also famous for hosting the headquarters of the UN nations (as is Vienna). The buildings and grounds contain sculptures and other works of art donated by member countries. Here, in the Parliament of Man, history is made as representatives of member countries work to solve international problems. A limited number of free tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis for General Assembly and Council meetings during the session, just prior to meeting times, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You can satisfy almost all your needs from high culture to wilderness within the city limits, but if you're determined to see the surrounding areas, here are some ideas for day trips outside the city. There are some beautiful beaches near New York and it is possible to join them for a day trip. Coney Island is the closest, you can get there by subway but I wouldn't swim there because the water is quite dirty, as they say. A better option is to check with the Long Island Railroad and inquire about their special beach packages available in June, July, and August. For example, you can get a round-trip ticket to Long Beach on Long Island and a pass to use the beach for the day for about $12.
