The research initiated for the results on electroconvulsive therapy was aimed at finding its general properties of effectiveness and use, as well as the circumstances in which it was used. Early electroconvulsive therapy, also known as (ECT), is a therapeutic practice that intentionally passes electrical current through a patient's brain triggering a brief seizure. The electrically induced seizure would alter the chemical structure of the brain, often alleviating the symptoms of serious mental disorders. However, ECT has been considered a very controversial method for treating disorders. The reason is that it's not all that effective and has only worked in some cases. Also due to its misuse in the 1970s, when it was administered without anesthetic causing severe pain and discomfort in patients receiving the treatment, they also experienced severe memory loss and other side effects.
