The Perfect Couple in Woman in White In Woman in White, the author offers the reader many opportunities to find their favorite romantic plot. The reader is left wondering which characters are right for each other. We are given the choices between the gentlemanly Walter and the feminine Laura or Laura and the deceitful Sir Percival. It seems to this reader that the author has given us the answer to the disconcerting question of the perfect couple; except that the perfect couple is truly a perfect trio: Walter, Laura and Marian. Walter didn't have to choose between the two main female characters because they made it for him. It's obvious that Laura and Marian complement each other. We see that whatever qualities Laura lacks, Marian has them, and vice versa. These two women come together to create the perfect woman. Let's examine Laura first.
