Topic > Who talks to your kids online? - 657

Every time children access the Internet, they come into contact with adults with malicious and often dangerous intent. Parents of this generation may have only recently started using the Internet. Children, on the other hand, start young. Since children often have secret passwords and hidden privacy settings, parents are often unaware of the danger their children are in while online. Only a fraction of parents actively monitor their children's activity when they are on the Internet. Furthermore, most children and adolescents are not only willing to share personal information online, but a sizable percentage are also willing to meet strangers they meet online. The danger they face is immense. Most North American parents do not supervise their children while they are online. There are simple ways to do this, but it's not done. One of the easiest ways for parents to know what their children are doing online is to check their Internet history. Most children don't bother deleting their history and can be accessed by finding their Internet settings and selecting the "history" button. Some may not consider this a way to monitor their children's computer usage, but malware and virus protection software is a great tool to have. Protects your computer from software, images, and videos downloaded by children that may be potentially harmful to your computer. The final method of ensuring children's safety online is the use of blocking. Parents can block dangerous and inappropriate chat rooms and websites from a computer. It takes a little more work, but it ensures that kids don't see anything or talk to anyone they shouldn't. These small changes can make them... middle of paper......know the intentions of the adult they are meeting, but their naivety does not protect them from the dangerous situations they are putting themselves in. If these meetings are practiced in secret or in private places, the consequences for adolescents can be extremely serious and therefore cannot be taken lightly. The Internet is becoming more and more popular and more and more children and teenagers are connecting to it every day. Most Canadian parents are unaware of the danger their children are in every time they use the computer. A considerable percentage of parents do not supervise their children while they are on the Internet, which leads to the disclosure of personal information and dangerous situations for children and adolescents in real life. Parents need to start monitoring their children and talking to them about the dangers of strangers online to ensure their children's safety.
