33 feet high, looking at the water, trying to determine whether this trick will make or break a diver from the rest of his career is a heart-pounding experience. It leaps, spins, flips and then launches at 62 miles per hour toward the unforgiving water headfirst. The loud splash the diver makes when he enters the water is perfect. He disappears into the dark obi of the water for what seems like forever, as he mentally prepares for applause or boos. In the end he has no choice but to go up. The room is silent as his head rises above the surface of the water. Then, before he has time to remember what's happening in the room, he bursts into cheers and applause, looks up at the scoreboard, and sees his name rise from third to first place. The adrenaline coursing through a diver's veins, the anticipation until they enter the water, all of this makes diving the best sport in the world and Britain certainly knows it. Diving has been around for over 400 years, and in that long time there have been great strides by British athletes and scientists to further the sport of diving by improving and inventing new and improved equipment. Some of these technological advancements are the trampoline, bubbler, and trampoline. The trampoline began as a long 2x6 piece of wood suspended from cliffs ranging from 10 to 50 feet above a lake or pool, this table had little to no bounce and made high difficulty stunts nearly impossible. Nowadays divers use new fiberglass boards that have large amounts of bends and springs that help launch a diver into the air to perform crazy stunts never seen before. This wonderful invention was created in 1960 so that divers could improve and perform stunts with imm...... middle of paper ...... ibuters of the magnificent sport of diving. If it weren't for all the British scientists, inventors and publicists, this sport might not be what it is today, it might not appear on reality shows or even in the Olympic Games.Works CitedMonkey. “Tom Daley's video is the perfect launchpad for ITV's Splash!” Theguardian.com.
