Leadership is defined as the ability to achieve one or more set goals through the act of inspiring and motivating a group of peers. Former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower famously quoted a quote that stated, “Leadership is nothing more than taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving credit to your subordinates for everything that goes right.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the workspace is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance for teamwork and there will be little to no goal achievement rate. However, becoming a great leader is no easy feat. An exceptional leader must be based on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character and human understanding. It doesn't sound like much, but for most people it can be nearly impossible. These qualities alone listed above are some of the many important qualities that will enable a leader to inspire and guide a group of people towards goals successfully. The Army Ranger Manual explains the duties, responsibilities, and actions of an effective leader. The leader is responsible for helping others see the light at the end of the tunnel and keeping them moving towards that light. Letting even one person go back would mean losing their contribution to the title of leader. A leader has 3 common steps. They receive the mission, issue a warning order, and make a provisional plan (Ranger's Handbook). When a mission arises, the elected leader will receive the mission regarding what needs to be accomplished by that group. It is up to the leader to use strategic time management to plan and rehearse what needs to be done with their group. This brings us to step 2 of the 3 common steps: Issue a warning… halfway down the paper… is born but still takes the lead by making decisions. These two categories both have advantages and disadvantages. A great leader must incorporate the two together and discover what percentage of each extreme works best with their groups.
