This park is popular among enthusiasts and National Park Service photographers, but underrated by virtually everyone else. Not only is it the most diverse National Park, it is simply one of the best. No other place offers such diverse landscapes packed into such a small area. While many national parks feature spectacular surroundings such as Bryce Canyon, Saguaro, or even the Grand Canyon, Olympic has three distinct and impressive environments. It boasts a temperate rainforest and a towering glaciated mountain range. and a Pacific Ocean coast covered in towering rock formations, there is no place that shelters such a wealth of diverse environments. Additionally there are several beautiful lakes and waterfalls which add even more diversity to the region. The park makes up a substantial part of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state, where industry has begun logging sections of old-growth forest. Originally set aside at Olympus National Monument in 1909 by Theodore Roosevelt, his cousin Franklin D. Roosevelt visited the park and decided to protect the forests he found exploited. Less than a year later the park was renamed a National Park. In subsequent years, Olympic National Park was also designated an International Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sites not to be missed There are very few roads in the park, so travel as much as possible. This natural wonder is located to the south, outside of Olympia.Klondike Gold Rush NationalHistorical Park-Seattle UnitLocated in downtown Seattle, this site is a museum dedicated to the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon and Alaska. It shows Seattle's role during this time when many ventured north to become wealthy. This park has a sister location in Alaska and a partnership with the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site, the Dawson Historic Complex National Historic Site, and other Parks Canada sites as part of the Klondike Gold Rush International Historic Park.
