BUG, Inc.BUG, Incorporated is a company that designs, manufactures and sells electronic recording devices. Most of their clientele are law enforcement companies. The type of equipment sold allows you to secretly listen to other conversations via cell phone transmissions, wiretaps, and remote microphones. As with any business, BUG should ensure that it has several types of legal protection to ensure that its employees, suppliers and the company are protected. BUG must consider protections for its intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights, trademarks and contracts. A patent is a grant of property rights, approved by the Patent and Trademark Office. The patents are advantageous to BUG because some of the BUG equipment is operated by software designed by the company's employees. A trademark is a distinctive way in which a company's goods and services are represented. Trademarks come in the form of a logo, symbol, words or brand names for packaging purposes and provide security to BUG's corporate logo when expanding internationally. A copyright provides protection to original literary and artistic works and sound recordings. BUG inventions are protected from reproduction by other companies under copyright. WIRETAP, Inc. is a competitor of BUG. Steve, one of WIRETAP's current employees, got a job at BUG in the research and development department. While working at BUG, Steve forwarded emails to WIRETAP regarding customer relationships, both domestic and international, and information about BUG's product lines. Many crimes are committed against company property, often committing theft or theft and misappropriation of funds. Steve engaged in seizing the property of another company, namely tangible property, trade secrets, computer programs, and other business property. Steve faces civil liability for theft and, more appropriately, larceny. Additionally, Steve faces specific crimes committed only by businessmen, termed white-collar crimes, which involve being cunning and deceitful. Embezzlement also applies to the situation where property is stolen by someone who BUG has contracted to be a key player in a civil case. WIRETAP is responsible for receiving stolen property or intentionally depriving the rightful owner of property. WIRETAP is also responsible for obtaining property through dishonesty and deception which constitutes a crime of forgery, also known as fraud and deception. Depending on how the company intends to use the stolen information, intentional misrepresentation occurs, misrepresenting material fact. Additionally, WIRETAP is participating in a common law tort of trimming, an old form of unfair competition that often occurs when a company tries to pass off its product to competitors.
