Studies show that students don't like the idea of wearing uniforms, but this report by Claudene Wharton of the University of Nevada states that "Although 90% of students indicate that they do not he liked wearing uniforms. Various benefits of wearing uniforms were reported, including decreases in discipline, gang involvement and bullying, and increases in confidence, ease of going to school, confidence and self-esteem.” This was a study conducted in the Washoe County School District. The research was conducted on 1,350 seventh and eighth grade students when Jafeth Sanchez, research assistant professor, and George “Gus” Hill, associate professor, conducted this report, they analyzed disciplinary issues and whether children in uniforms behaved better after the implementation of the uniform policy or not. These were the findings of this study: “compared to the previous year, disciplinary referrals are were reduced by 10% in the first year the uniform policy was implemented. Additionally, school police data showed a 63% reduction in police log reports during the first year of implementation.” These numbers represent a significant decline in violence after the implementation of uniforms in these schools.
