Topic > Peace negotiations in Colombia - 2091

September 4, 2012, a day that changed the lives of Colombians. Once again Colombia finds itself facing a peace negotiation with the FARC, but this time everything is different from the failed negotiations of the past. First, these negotiations have an agenda and take place in front of the entire world, constantly providing reports to Colombians. Secondly, it is the first time in which both sides have demonstrated a true desire for peace and reconciliation; this can be seen in the fact that the FARC accepted for the first time that they were perpetrators and not victims. Third, victims of conflict play an important role in the negotiations and are considered an essential part of the process. Colombia is finally seeing real peace negotiations, but not everyone is in favor of this process, there are some people who not only do not agree with the negotiations but are against them and want to stop them. Álvaro Uribe and his apprentice Oscar Iván Zuluga want to change the negotiations through new presidential elections. Zuluaga is the candidate of the Centro Democrático political party, one of its policies is against peace negotiations; asks for surrender instead of negotiation. Peace negotiations must succeed in Colombia, but this can only happen under realistic negotiating conditions. The country needs the negotiations to be successful because there would be a major economic improvement. The victims of the conflict are not only those threatened by the FARC, there are also the victims of fear. Fear is a bad friend everywhere, especially in economics; no one will invest in an insecure country. "The results of a survey carried out by the Universidad de los Andes in 2008 showed the effects of the conflict. The results showed that "three fours... half of the card... are similar to those Colombia is facing today: “courageous people do not fear forgiveness, for the sake of peace”, Nelson Mandela.
