No other country can compare to the great Brazil when it comes to the beautiful game of football. Since joining as a full member of FIFA, or Fédération Internationale de Football Association, in 1923, the country of Brazil has won numerous trophies and individual awards for its players (“Brazil”). Brazilian futebol, or soccer, has achieved international stardom due to its history of groundbreaking teams, breakthrough players, and winning performances in competitive tournaments. Although not the most competitive or attractive league, the football league, Liga Do Brasil, has still managed to produce teams that became international powers in their heydays. Santos Futebol Clube holds a joint record for most league titles, eight titles, in Liga Do Brasil history. It was also very successful in the Copa Do Brasil, a single-elimination tournament played not only by the first division but also by teams from lower divisions. Santos achieved its greatest success in the years 1961 to 1965. In those four years, Santos was widely considered the best team in the world. During that time he won six of his eight national titles, five of his six national cups, he was also crowned South American champion twice and also international champion once (“Characteristics of Santos FC”). That team featured a defense led by legends like Gilmar and Zito, but the most notable player among the starting eleven was Pelé. It took about another fifty years for Santos to win multiple titles in a season. In the 2010-2011 season Santos won one national title and one South American title ("Features of Santos FC"). Neymar, just like Pelé, has been the essential key to winning those... paper centres... throughout history. With all their contributions, Brazil richly deserves the title of football nation. Football would certainly be boring without the participation of this country. Works Cited "Brazil". FIFA.com. Np, nd Web. 09 December 2013."FifaBallonDor." FIFA.com.
