Piers Morgan, journalist, editor, author and television personality, is one of the best-known journalists of this century. Also known as "Piers Moron" for his controversial, outspoken yet influential news. He made a name for himself in both America and Britain. Starting as a local reporter, Piers traveled through different news media, eventually landing a place in the big leagues of television. Having taken over the late-night TV spot, previously owned by Larry King, Piers currently graces our television screens with his brutal opinions and raw news coverage. Piers was born as Piers O'Meara on March 30, 1965 in East Sussex, England. Piers' father, Vincent O'Meara, died when Piers was very young. Years later his mother remarried, officially changing his name to Piers Pughe – Morgan. His mother and stepfather owned a local pub which helped fund his attendance at private school; a few years later his parents could no longer afford private school, so Piers was sent to Chailey public school in East Sussex. Pier's parents were considered conservative and strongly supported Margaret Thatcher, which may have influenced his strong penchant for guns. he attended Harlow College where he studied journalism. He then got his first job as a reporter in Surrey, London in the early 1980s. In 1989 he joined The Sun where he became entertainment editor. In 1994 Rupert Murdoch discovered Piers to become editor of the News of the World; Piers became well known throughout Britain during his time there. At the age of twenty-eight Piers was named one of the youngest managing editors of a national tabloid. In 1995 Piers left News of the World and became the… middle of the paper… being “taken too far” or simply “inhumane”. Piers has made a name for himself from a humble local British reporter to one of the most controversial journalists and television personalities in both Britain and America. He has used his talent for better or worse causing controversy wherever he goes. Piers considers his type of journalism to be the best type of journalism, in his own words he simply says: "We want chaos." Works Cited "Piers Morgan". 2013. The Biography Channel website.
