1) Odysseus leaves for war in Troy and has difficulty returning, because Poseidon is angry with Odysseus. Athena goes to Ithica to try to help Telemachus (son of Odysseus). Telemachus' mother has many suitors in her palace who want to marry her. Telemachus and Athena (in disguise) go to the house of an old family friend and ask for help. Athena tells Telemachus to go and find his father.(2-3) There was an assembly for the suitors and everyone. They are forcing Penelope to marry someone. She says she will choose someone after she finishes weaving something. He believes that Odysseus is alive. Telemachus leaves and doesn't tell his mother he's leaving, so it doesn't worry her. Telemachus and Athena leave and Athena is disguised as a mentor to Pylos. The mentor makes a good impression on King Nestor. Telemachus says he is the son of Odysseus and asks about his father.(4) Athena and Telemachus arrive in Sparta. He asks about his father again. He finds out from Helen and Menelaus that his father is alive and living in Calypso with a nymph. (5-6) Zeus sends Odysseus to Ogygia, Calypso, and Hermes tells Calypso to Odysseus. Someone gave Ulysses the materials to build a raft and some food. On the way to Ethiopia, Poseidon sees. Poseidon opens the ocean and tries to drown him. Athena and a sea nymph named Leucothea help him. He reaches the island of Scheria, home of the Phaeacians. Athena visits Nausiaa in her sleep. Athena tells her to help wash clothes with her maids and to get a cart pulled by mules. Nausicaa asks her father to go and wash. Eat, wash clothes and play. She sees Ulysses and he flatters her because he wants to go to the city. Nausicaa helps Odysseus look good because she wants his parents to think that he is... middle of paper... or jewels. Ulysses says that the reward will come with death. Telemachus, Odysseus, the cow and the pig heard all the suitors being killed. Odysseus asks the maids to clean up all the blood and hangs the disloyal maids. He does not hang Eurycleia.(23-24) Penelope tests Odysseus. Telemachus defends his father because Penelope didn't believe it was him. She is shocked because she didn't think he would come home. There are two signs that she would know it was Odysseus. Penelope asked Eurycleia to move the bed. Ulysses is crazy because he built this bed around the olive tree. This is one of the signs that he knew it was Odysseus. Then they get together. Odysseus sees his father and has to prove that it is him. She tells him about her scar and her orchards. His father knows it's him and they are reunited. The suitors' families come for revenge. Athena and Zeus tell them to stop fighting.
