The refusal of some health insurers to include contraceptives as part of an insurance plan for women is one of the most contentious disagreements in the health insurance industry. Today, insurance plans cover a variety of prescription drugs, yet some still do not approve prescription drugs and contraceptive devices. More than half of US states' insurance policies require other prescription drugs along with FDA-approved contraceptive drugs and devices to be included in their health care plans, as well as all related medical services. These services entitle you to annual visits for treatments and preventative services recommended by women. Although depending on individual state policies, some states allow employers or insurers to refuse coverage of contraceptives based on religious or moral reasons. Other birth control opponents simply don't think it's worth raising premiums if insurers covered all common forms of contraceptives. However, a new law now requires insurance companies to offer contraceptives with no copays or deductibles, as part of the Affordable Care Act. Access to low-cost contraceptives affects women and their families in ways that many people don't realize they account. Women should be able to control when they get pregnant because this allows them to go to school and have a career. Unfortunately, research has shown that young women between the ages of 18 and 34 are also the least able to afford contraception. It is not true that birth control is cheap for everyone. Many women have medical needs that require the use of more expensive contraceptives. As a result, the government is cutting funding to clinics that would otherwise help provide affordable birth control. What is more disturbing is that Vi...... middle of paper...... women because eliminating both of them would be harmful. It is proven that increasing overall premiums for long-term insurance companies would not increase deficits, but instead reduce them. Among religious groups, birth control coverage is not a problem because it is widely used. The people who oppose such drugs and services are not even women themselves.
