The purpose of educationWhen people talk about education, they often imagine students going to school with information stuck in their heads instead of harnessing their potential, according to Sydney J Harris. Just like Sydney said, education today is more about giving information to a person rather than getting something out of it, so the purpose of education has changed from teaching people to filling them with various facts and giving them little time to digest them . Therefore, today's educational process does not achieve its purpose and misleads its students. To achieve the purpose and avoid misleading students, education must promote classroom curiosity, independent thinking, and a sense of responsibility as a purpose. The first purpose of education and also one of the most important characteristics of human being is curiosity. Because curiosity has intrigued people throughout history and pushed them to make many surprising discoveries and inventions. But education today has wasted the curiosity of its students with thick textbooks and standardized tests. Students spent hours of their days reviewing notes or preparing for tests rather than actually learning anything. Therefore, the purpose of education was now to ignite a spark of curiosity in students because it allowed them to engage more in the classroom and utilize information to its fullest potential. But if the fire were to go out, the students would become a simple robot receiving instructions. For example, science classes like chemistry and biology are the most boring and terrifying classes for me in high school. Because often in science class we spend most of our time reading the textbook and taking notes more than anything else; t... half of the paper... ad thing. Students often have the impression that if they give a wrong answer their classmates will criticize them for it and because there is no one to tell them "It's okay". The responsibility for that response is really heavy because education makes it so. Instead of giving a grade for every test they take and finalizing them to GPA. Education should give students a second chance to deal with responsibility. The responsibility is heavy when people think about it too much. Curiosity in the classroom, independent thinking, and a sense of responsibility are the missing purpose of education that will allow students to get more from school than just information. Education can only work when educators know what the student needs and students know what they want. Educators and students have a relationship in some way, things will work out as long as neither party gives up.
