A data analysis consisting of 115 child sex trafficking cases was examined and thoroughly studied. Information relating to these cases was collected using two specific methods. One method involved reviewing press releases on human trafficking cases issued by the Department of Justice. The second method was to obtain information through online searches of media reports. This study examines research that initially began on October 28, 2000, and continued through October 31, 2009. If a case of human trafficking occurred in the United States, with the victim under the age of 18, and with at least one criminal arrested, charged or convicted, their case would be archived in the data analysis report. This research uncovered 115 separate incidents of human trafficking, involving at least 153 victims and 215 criminals or perpetrators, 117 (53.4%) of whom were convicted for their heinous actions. Each individual case involved between 1 and 9 trafficking victims. 90% of these victims were women between the ages of 5 and 17, held captive for less than 6 months to 5 years.
