This memo is to discuss what I learned from the technical writing course and its impact on my writing skills as a nursing professional. Good writing skills for nurses improve healthcare delivery and promote empowerment. Over the past 5 weeks I have learned to use a systematic process for writing and reviewing documents. I also had the opportunity to practice my technical writing by completing practical assignments included in the course work. One of the key things I learned in this course is the importance of the intended audience of the document. If the document does not meet the needs of those who read it, then it is a useless document. The audience and purpose of the document should dictate how the document is written. The concept of topic sentences and supporting statements as components of each paragraph was also a critical learning point in the course.
