All of us, at some point, have taken a camera, gathered our friends and tried to make a film. I remember doing this a lot in second grade. I still do it sometimes! Making a professional film is very different from a small homemade film. Amateur movies are shot in a home or in public, while a professional movie is made most of the time in a studio. Furthermore, professional films require a lot of lighting and editing, while home movies are usually shot without some professional editing and lighting. Finally, professional films require a lot of money, while home videos are usually not very expensive. The first is the phase called pre-production, before the film is actually made. This includes planning, budgeting and finding people. A rough script is initially created for the film. A screenplay is then created. A script is a step-by-step production of drawings that show the details of how the film will look and how things will happen.
