After years of coercion from Britain, America finally had enough. The Americans would no longer remain silent and would take what was thrown at them. One of the most impactful wars in American history occurred, and there was enormous celebration for their victory. For white males everywhere, freedom and equality had finally been secured, but for everyone else, such as women and African Americans, virtually no change occurred. The Declaration of Independence potentially had the power to finally recognize that all are equal but instead turns around this idea by saying that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life , Freedom and the pursuit of happiness” (page 1). This famous quote would lead some to believe that true equality actually existed in the 18th century, but this was not the case at all. The continued enslavement of African Americans and the subjugation of women could perhaps have ended, but hypocrisy as a nature was too prominent in America at the time.
