The Medical Potential of the 19th Century America was known to be one of the most medically unprepared countries in the world at the beginning of the 19th century. Even though today we are considered one of the best medical programs in the world, America was once unaware of how important hygiene and health were. The main points of medical progress during the 19th century were new practices and beliefs, new diseases and bacteria formed and discovered, as well as medicine discovered and famous surgeries performed. The development of medicine in the 19th century progressed rapidly as scientists and doctors created new theories and antidotes that would change the history of medicine forever. In the early 19th century there were several religious groups who believed in many different remedies, albeit alone. cure or from herbs and plants. Others believed that there were several methods that could help cure the patient, however they later came to know that these old methods would harm their patients and could cause mere death. The old method of medicine in the early 19th century was known as quackery beliefs: "Quakers promoted bizarre treatments such as electric garments, water cures, and bleeding patients to eliminate germs from people's bodies" (Floyd, Barbara). Then they realized that after doing these treatments, a gradual increase in deaths was occurring and that they had to slowly disapprove of these numerous medical theories. New eras were forming and the scientific community struggled to survive, the era of Romanticism began and inexperienced health reformers replaced doctors and began to give three…… half the paper…. ..painless surgeries, however nitrous oxide is a drug, which has made most surgeons addicted for life. This showed a progress and success in the medical world, it showed our weaknesses and our high potential, however there were many obstacles that America had to overcome the crisis to be considered today one of the most prepared countries from the point of medical sight to the world. There were many other new medical tools and drugs founded in that particular time period that would make America a more successful country, not only industrially but medically as well. Without our careless failures in the medical field we would not be as prepared as we are today. Learning about the medicine of the past not only helps you think about future medical problems, but also helps you understand where something was wrong or less modern and how they can improve it for other generations to come..
