The causes and consequences of divorce Objectives In this course I would like to explore the reasons for the breakdown of marriage which consequently lead to divorce and even more so to single-parent families. I also want to ask the question about dependent children in family units. Another important aspect to investigate concerns the age couples who are most likely to separate from the marriage, and I will also examine the development of divorce in recent decades. Another point I will cover is changes in attitudes towards divorce. Another area to investigate is whether religion has an influence on the breakdown of marriages. If there was more religion in marriages, more couples would stay true to their wedding vowels and try to make the marriage work. Another sensitive issue where marriages end is violence and I will look at this issue in great detail. The reason I am investigating this topic is because I would like to know why the divorce rate is increasing dramatically. My specific point to consider is why marriages break down and why people divorce each other. The methods I will use to carry out this research utilize books, internet searches, newspapers, and primary sources. By taking this course I want to illustrate the very detailed reasons why people divorce and the consequences of divorce on society. to include past perspectives of divorce at different times, key theories of divorce, and divorce studies. The context will also contain evidence to support the claims made. The backgrou......half of the document......is It's easy to imagine someone at some point in marriage thinking "this isn't what I signed up for, nor what I want" and "I have enough years left to make it worth going out and trying again." Another reason for divorce may be that couples become jealous of other so-called "Hollywood" marriages. They may see certain things on TV, in magazines, in newspaper pictures of nice homes and it makes them want more, more that they can't get in their current marriage. Two other influences may play a role in 21st century divorce. One is time. Both partners may be increasingly challenged by their work. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but not if the reunions are tense and fleeting. A second factor is the exaggerated value of perfection; perfect wedding; perfect child; why not order the perfect wedding.
