Topic > How Books Reflect Your Life - 1188

Throughout our lives, we have met many people who don't read books. Some people believe that books are boring; they have no panache or action. Books teach you nothing and are a waste of time. James Baldwin would disagree with these people and say the following words: “You think your pain and heartbreak is unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me to all the people who were alive, or had ever been alive. James Baldwin is saying that books are important to society. They help you understand what is happening in today's world. They also show different perspectives of someone else's life. I, as a person, agree with James Baldwin. As a reader I had read many books. Some of these books made me understand all the different life strategies and what the important aspects of life are. A book that reflects my life is The Color of Water by James McBride. This book is about how the author, James who was black, did not know his true identity. The reason he doesn't know his true identity is because his mother, Ruth, who is white, had hidden his identity from James, who he really is and where he comes from. James will always ask his mother questions that will help him develop his mind about who he is. But when he asks his mother these questions, her response is: "God created us" or "stop asking stupid questions." This book taught me to be my true self. It had me thinking about being proud of who I am and what I am. When I was a freshman, I was not the “real” Brandon that I consider myself to be today. When I was a freshman I had done things that showed my false identity. I was just like Ruth who hides her identity and goes... middle of paper... answers again. Also to SE Hinton, who wrote The Outsiders, help me develop the characteristics of being loyal, trustworthy, respectful, and mature. But the main author is Ray Bradbury, who wrote Fahrenheit 451, which made me realize that books are important to the world. Since we live in a society today where we barely read books, it is terrible that their minds lack the knowledge they need to succeed. Some people believe that books are boring; they have no panache or action. If I were Montag and found out why people don't read. I would like to enlighten them just as John Locke enlightens people so that they can take back their natural rights. I say that if we don't read this world would be chaos. Graduate in a book, people! Books are precious. Take advantage of this advantage to succeed. LIGHT! If I find the books interesting, you can too. When you read, don't judge a book by its color.
